Estne tibi, Cerinthe, tuae pia cura puellae,
 quod mea nunc uexat corpora fessa calor?
A ego non aliter tristes euincere morbos
 optarim, quam te si quoque uelle putem.
At mihi quid prosit morbos euincere, si tu        5
 nostra potes lento pectore ferre mala? 

"Have you, Cerinthus, a devoted concern for your girl,

because the fever is now battering my tired body?

Alas, I would not wish to be rid of the painful disease,

if I didn't think you wanted this too.

But what good would it do me to be free of the disease, if you

can bear my woes with an indifferent heart?"
