“Collage” by Kazimiera Zimblytė is a mysterious and abstract painting, composed in such a way that the two dimensional surface area becomes infinite space when you look at it. The materials used for this particular piece – rough texture canvas and corrugated cardboard – were nothing new to the western tradition in 1982, but in the east was rather a step in the direction following the art of the West. At that time it was very difficult to attain materials needed for painting under the Soviet regime, therefore, Kazimiera Zimblytė had to resort to using torn pieces of fabric, leather, foil, paper, etc. and then spraying them with nitroenamel paint. 

Despite strict regulations and censorship under the Soviet occupation in Lithuania, Kazimiera Zimblytė chose to create abstract art (which was considered flawed, empty and apolitical by the regime) and was one of the first artists in Lithuania to do so. 

Varieties of abstract painting in Lithuania have been developed by E. A. Cukermanas, J. Čeichytė, L. Drazdauskaitė, D. Kasčiūnaitė, R. V. Katiliūtė, V. Povilaitis, A. Tornau, K. Zapkus, P. Gailius, and Tadas Burba, while conceptual painting strategies and contemporary themes have featured in the works of K.Ališauskaitė J. Barilaitė, E. Gineitytė, J. Jarulytė, A. Jonkutė, J. Jurcikas, E. Karpavičiūtė, A. Kirvelytė, J. Kyzikaitė, M. Kosinskaitė, E Ridikaitė, R. Sorakaitė, and E. Ulčickaitė.
