Let’s talk about fotography!
Have you ever wondered how the past was portraited in photos? Let’s have a look at Christina Broom, credited as the UK's first female press photographer.
Choose one of the following photos she took and describe it according to the guide model proposed.
MODEL ANSWER:
“This picture was taken by Christina Broom at the beginning of the XX Century. The picture presents three women in a stand. They represent the party to fight for women rights. In this case, they are asking for votes for women.
The picture is in black and white. In the middle there are these three women wearing black dresses and hats. At the top, there is a placard that says: VOTES FOR WOMEN. At the bottom, we can see another placard with the name of the group of these women: Women’s Social and Political Union and a demand for having the right to vote.
In my opinion, it is a very interesting picture where we can see women who are fighting for their rights.”
Observacions i context
- Activitat interdisciplinària amb l'assignatura de Geografia i Història amb la qual es pot contextualitzar el moment històric de la fotògrafa per a aprendre sobre la 1a Guerra Mundial.
- Christina Broom no va ser la primera dona britànica a agafar una cambra, ja que abans que ella ho va fer, per exemple, la molt més coneguda i reconeguda Julia Margaret Cameron, però sí que va ser la primera a eixir al carrer amb ella. No obstant això, malgrat haver pres més de 40 000 fotografies, el seu nom i el reconeixement a la seua labor i la seua figura passen pràcticament desapercebuts per a la majoria.

Es treballarà des del text model sobre una de les fotografies de l'artista. L'alumnat haurà de descriure a grans trets el missatge de la fotografia i després els elements que s'observen en ella. Finalitzarà amb una breu opinió personal sobre la fotografia.
