Read the following  text and answer the questions.                              

 SCIENCE FICTION IS ALSO FOR WOMEN 

'The Female Man (1970). by Joanna Russ, a landmark book in the fields of science fiction and feminism. Four women living in parallel worlds, each with a different gender landscape. When they begin to travel to each other's worlds, each woman's preconceptions on gender and what it means to be a woman are challenged.

Acclaimed as one of the essential works of science fiction and an influence on William Gibson, The Female man takes a look at gender roles in society and remains a work of great power.”

- Mujeres coetáneas: Alice Bradley Sheldon, alias James Triptree, (1915); Úrsula K. Le Guin (1929) y Margaret Atwood (1939).

- Su trabajo es ampliamente enseñado en cursos sobre ciencia ficción y feminismo en el mundo anglo-parlante. Russ es el tema del libro de Farah Mendlesohn On Joanna Russ (2009) y del libro de Jeanne Cortiel Demand My Writing: Joanna Russ, Feminism, Science Fiction (2000). Russ y su trabajo también son destacados en el libro de Sarah LeFanu Drings Chinks in the World Machine: Feminism and Science Fiction (1988).  

- Es la autora de varias obras de ciencia ficción y fantasía, como How to Suppress Women’s Writing (1983). Su obra más célebre es El hombre hembra (1970), una novela que combina sátira y ficción utópica, que puede leerse como novela, así como en su calidad de texto teórico.

Description

En esta actividad se pretende mejorar la comprensión escrita mediante un texto sobre Joanna Russ.

El alumnado conocerá a una de las autoras más importantes de ciencia ficción, Joanna Russ (1937–2011), que fue una escritora, académica y feminista radical estadounidense.
