It’s another sweltering morning in Memphis Egypt. As the sunlight brightens the Nile, Peseshet _________ her supplies: Honey, garlic, cumin, acaecia leaves, cedar oil. She’s well stocked with the essentials she _________ to treat her patients. Peseshet is a swnw, or a doctor. In order to become one she had to train as a scribe and study the medical papyri stored at the Per Ankh, the House of Life. Now, she _________ her own students there. Before teaching, Peseshet _________ a patient to see. One of the workers at the temple construction site has injured his arm. When Peseshet _________ the labourer’s arm is clearly broken, and worse, the fracture is a seg (segmental) with multiple bone fragments. Peseshet binds and immobilizes the injury.
Her next stop is the House of Life. On her way, a woman intercepts Peseshet in the street. The woman’s son has been stung by a scorpion. Peseshet has seen many similar stings and _________ exactly what to do. She must say an incantation to cast the poison out. She _________ to recite the spell, invoking Serqet, patron of physicians and goddess of venomous creatures. Peseshet _________ the spell as if she is Serqet. This commanding approach has the greatest chance at success. After she utters the last line, she _________ to cut the poison out with a knife for good measure.
*Peseshet lived under the Fourth Dynasty (Albeit a date in the Fifth Dynasty is also possible) and is often credited with being the earliest known female physician in History.

En classe es pot utilitzar per a reflexionar sobre les tradicions o les supersticions en diferents cultures, per exemple, durant Halloween.
- En l'Antic Egipte la funció mèdica es regia per una estricta organització, com qualsevol funcionari/a de l'estat faraònic. Els sanitaris partien des del títol genèric de swnw o metge/a. Per això, si ascendia de categoria arribava a ser la cap o cap dels metges; i a la part alta de l'escala: inspector/a o director/a dels mèdics/as. El paper de les dones egípcies com a terapeutes va quedar reflectit en les pintures de tombes, on pot veure's com les dones atenen un part.
- Les dones en l'antic Egipte tenien llibertats que no tenien en altres llocs. A més, és sabut que el poble de l'antic Egipte adorava a deesses com Yuy, per a quedar-se embarassades; Hequet, i Shepset, per a ajudar al part; Mesjenet, protectora del part; i Bastet, protectora de les possibles complicacions posteriors.
- No podem saber si Peseshet va ser la primera dona mèdica de la Història, perquè hi haurà moltes que simplement no hem descobert encara.
- En l'Antiga Grècia, va existir una llei que prohibia a tota dona l'exercici de la Medicina i la pràctica de l'Obstetrícia. No obstant això, es coneix la història d'una dona, anomenada Agnodice, qui es va veure obligada a disfressar-se d'home per a anar a estudiar amb Herófilo de Calcedonia, famós metge i anatomista d'Alexandria.
- La Bíblia hebrea, encara que no es considere una font totalment fiable dels esdeveniments històrics anteriors al segle VII a. C., es refereix a les llevadores en l'Èxode 1,15-16:

Aquesta pot ser una activitat de repàs del present simple i al seu torn un bon exercici de Listening i de Writing.
Primer, l'alumnat veurà i escoltarà un vídeo sobre Peseshet, una metgessa de l'antic Egipte. Després, completarà el text amb els verbs que falten en present simple.
Per a finalitzar, treballarà el vocabulari més complex que apareix en el text i contestarà unes preguntes de comprensió sobre el vídeo i el text. Pot durar uns 20 minutos.
L'objectiu de l'activitat és que sàpien reconéixer el present simple en un text oral.
