We are going to describe a photograph by American photographer Dorothea Lange (1895-1965). But first, let’s deal with some vocabulary.

- WARMING UP/INTRODUCTION (10’)
The teacher could draw as many emoji circles on the board as many Feelings and Emotions adjectives he/she intends to present to the students.
(In the example: PLEASED / IN LOVE, EXCITED, SURPRISED, SAD/BLUE/UNHAPPY/, CHEERFUL, DELIGHTED, ANGRY, HILARIOUS, COOL, ASHAMED/EMBARRASSED/SHY, HAPPY).
The teacher would fill in the circles with some of the most common adjectives (e.g. HAPPY / SAD), but leave some blank. Students work in pairs or small groups to complete the circles and rush to the board to
a) label the ones that the teacher has drawn, as well as
b) fill in the blank circles with emojis and adjectives. TIME SETTING (e.g. 5')
Possible emojis to use in class.

Teachers should write Feelings and Emotions on the pictures on the board.
They could start a short dialogue with the students and then continue in pairs.
It would be useful to write USEFUL EXPRESSIONS on the board (5').

Marion Post Wolcott (1910-1990): was the first woman to be offered a job as a full-time photographer for the Farm Security Administration.
Louise Rosskam (1910-2003): photographed Washington DC and Vermont, focusing on racial justice.
Marjory Collins (1912-1985): photographed the lives of African Americans, Jews, immigrants, and others.
Berenice Abbott (1898-1991): documented changes in New York City, paying particular attention to how infrastructure affects the daily lives of people.
Other women photographers belonging to other artistic movements were Imogen Cunningham (1883-1976), Kati Horna (1912-2000) and Tina Modotti (1896-1942), as well as Gerda Taro (1910-1937) in Europe.
