Enunciado

In 1913, when Mary Phelps Jacob, better known as Caresse Crosby, was dressing to go to a party, she noticed that the wires of her corset were peeking out of her neckline. To solve this situation, she sewed two silk scarves crossed and tied with a ribbon, thus creating the basis of the modern bra. Mary called this contraption a "backless bra."  In 1914 she patented her invention, thus becoming the inventor of the first bra. It was light, soft and comfortable, it could be used by women of different sizes and made it easier to practice sports that involved a lot of movement.

It is often mistakenly thought that a structure can only be a building that supports the stress of thousands or millions of kilos. However, in everyday life, we can also find examples of structures. The following image shows us an example of a structure, the first bra, invented by Mary Phelps Jacob:

a) What type of stress are bra straps subjected to? Draw that stress.

b) Write the name of four objects or structural elements that are subjected to the same type of stress.

c) Indicate the stress to which the following elements are subjected:

Observaciones y contexto

contexto de creación femenina:

We can relate Mary Phelps Jacob's invention of the first light bra to other everyday inventions made by women in the late 19th and 20th centuries: the dishwasher (Josephine Cochrane), the hypodermic syringe (Letitia Geer), the coffee pot (Melitta Bentz), the disposable diaper (Marion Donovan), the lifeboat (Maria Beasley), the inkjet (Bette Nesmith Graham) or the windshield wiper (Mary Anderson).

Descripción

Type: Exercises to identify the different types of stress to which different structural elements are subjected, within the subject Structures.

OBJECTIVES: Analyse the stress to which the structures are subjected as well as their transmission between the elements that make it up, experimenting with prototypes.
