Observations and context
This activity, with a more complex proposal, is also assigned to the "The Cell" block of Biology of 4th ESO.
Lynn Margulis is one of the scientists who have contributed with their proposals to the development of evolutionary biology. Some, like Antoinette Brown Blacwell, dared to question some of Darwin's conclusions, who considered that "evolution had made man superior to woman". Others, such as Barbara McClintock and Esther Lederberg, among others, discovered transposable genetic elements and horizontal gene transfer in bacteria, respectively. These discoveries have subsequently been of great importance in understanding evolution.
Lynn Margulis proposed a new classification of living beings into five kingdoms together with astronomer Carl Sagan and Robert Whitaker.
