Enunciado

When you are in the car and it starts to rain, windscreen wipers are automatically activated and they allow a clear view of the road. This everyday object has changed a lot since its inventor, Mary Anderson, conceived it.

The following picture shows a rain-sensing feature of a windscreen wiper:

1.Describe briefly how it works.

2. Is it an open-loop or a closed-loop control system? Justify your answer.

Observaciones y contexto

We can relate this invention by Mary Anderson to other everyday inventions made by women in the late 19th and 20th centuries: the dishwasher (Josephine Cochrane), the hypodermic syringe (Letitia Geer), coffee filters (Melitta Bentz), the disposable nappy (Marion Donovan), the lifeboat (Maria Beasley), the ink pen (Bette Nesmith Graham) or the bra (Mary Phelps Jacob).

Descripción

Exercises to put into practice the concepts of types of control systems and their elements.

OBJECTIVES: analysing automatic systems by studying their components in order to apply them to the assembly of simple automatisms or robots with autonomous movement.
