Observacions i context

Cleopatra followed a tradition of powerful women from pharaonic Egypt like Nicrotis, Hatshepsut and Nefertiti, and lagid queens such as Cleopatra II or Berenice III. After them, the Syrians Julia Domna, Julia Maesa, Julia Mamaea and Julia Soaemias, had a great role in the Severa dynasty, and Zenobia, queen of Palmyra, also faced Rome.

For the activity, we will need:

- Have the students group their tables 4 by 4, making a square.

- A handout with the Greek alphabet in uppercase and lowercase letters and their Latin equivalent.

- Blank pages.

- Brushes.

- Black ink.

- Water.

- Coffee.

- Paper towels.

We will give each student a sheet of paper that they will have to "make look old". To do this, they will first have to crumple the sheet into a ball, then spread it out on their desk and smear it with the mixture obtained from water and coffee. After that, they will put it to dry and, once it is dry, they will write their name with Greek characters (in uppercase or lowercase, as the students prefer).

Once the activity is finished, all the names of the class will be displayed in the classroom.
