Let’s talk about fotography!
Have you ever wondered how the past was portraited in photos? Let’s have a look at Christina Broom, credited as "the UK's first female press photographer".
Choose one of the following photos she took and describe it according to the guide model proposed.
MODEL ANSWER:
“This picture was taken by Christina Broom at the beginning of the XX Century. The picture presents three women in a stand. They represent the party to fight for women rights. In this case, they are asking for votes for women.
The picture is in black and white. In the middle there are these three women wearing black dresses and hats. At the top, there is a placard that says: VOTES FOR WOMEN. At the bottom, we can see another placard with the name of the group of these women: Women’s Social and Political Union and a demand for having the right to vote.
In my opinion, it is a very interesting picture where we can see women who are fighting for their rights.”
Observaciones y contexto
- Actividad interdisciplinar con la asignatura de Geografía e Historia con la que se puede contextualizar el momento histórico de la fotógrafa para aprender sobre la 1.ª Guerra Mundial.
- Christina Broom no fue la primera mujer británica en coger una cámara, ya que antes que ella lo hizo, por ejemplo, la mucho más conocida y reconocida Julia Margaret Cameron, pero sí fue la primera en salir a la calle con ella. Sin embargo, a pesar de haber tomado más de 40 000 fotografías, su nombre y el reconocimiento a su labor y su figura pasan prácticamente desapercibidos para la mayoría.

Descripción
- Esta es una actividad que pretende mejorar la comprensión escrita.
- Comprensión, producción y coproducción de textos orales, escitos y multimodales, breves y sencillos, literarios y no literarios.
Para ello, se describirán fotografías realizadas por Christina Broom.
Se trabajará desde el texto modelo sobre una de las fotografías de la artista. El alumnado deberá describir a grandes rasgos el mensaje de la fotografía y después los elementos que se observan en ella. Finalizará con una breve opinión personal sobre la fotografía.
