ACTIVITY 1 

Exercise 1 Listen to the video about Boudicca and fill in the gaps with the correct regular verb.

                    BOUDICCA 
  Have you heard of Boudicca? She was queen of the Iceni, a tribe of people who ___1__  in Eastern England in Britain almost two thousand years ago. Boudicca was tall with very long red hair and wore a gold necklace and a beautiful brooch. She was very intelligent and she had probably been to warrior school so she knew how to fight. By Ad 43, the Romans had conquered southern England.

At first, they allowed Boudicca and her husband to continue to rule. But when Boudicca’s husband __2___ the Romans took all his land and property, they __3___ to rule de Iceni and they treated them very badly, so in ad 60 or 61 Boudica and the Iceni ___4__ against the Romans together with other tribes who were also treated badly by the Romans. Boudicca and her large army __5___ one Roman army and destroyed the capital of Roman Britain, Colchester. In Colchester, she ___6__ the temple built for Emperor Claudius. They also destroyed two more cities; many people died.  

Now, I am fighting for my freedom, we must win the battles or die. Let the men live as slaves if they want, I will not.

Finally, Boudicca and her army were defeated. The surviving Iceni people ran away or were turned into slaves. Boudicca probably ___7__ herself with poison, her body has never been found. The rebellion was so shocking to Emperor Nero, the ruler of the Roman Empire, that he __8___  to withdraw from Britain.

In the end, the Romans occupied Britain for over 350 years more, but they also __9___ the British people more fairly, and __10___ lower taxes. Boudicca has been an inspiration for other female leaders such as Elisabeth I or Queen Victoria. Her rebellion was one of the most significant against the Roman Empire. Observaciones y contexto

- Entre altres dones cèlebres que van lluitar contra els romans, podem esmentar a Cleopatra (-69/-30) o Zenobia de Palmira (c-245- c.-290) 
- La figura de Budicca seria oblidada fins que durant el regnat d'Elisabeth I va començar a guanyar importància en la història de Britània com a símbol nacional.  
- Més tard la reina Victòria també la rescataria per a reafirmar el seu paper com a reina de l'imperi, ja que el nom d'ambdues significava el mateix. El Poeta Llorejat de la reina, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, va escriure un poema titulat Boadicea, i diversos vaixells van portar aquest nom. Entre 1850 i 1860, amb el suport del príncep Albert, Thomas Thornycroft va realitzar una estàtua de Budicca amb les seues dues filles en un carro de cavalls. 
- Posteriorment, seria el símbol adoptat per les sufragistes en les marxes de la National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies
- Per a ampliar podem demanar a l'alumnat que busque altres reines o princeses guerreres en diferents cultures.
 

Descripción

En aquesta activitat treballem la comprensió oral amb un vídeo del British Council que podem trobar en YouTube.  
En aquesta activitat de Listening l'alumnat ha d'introduir els verbs regulars en passat que falten. Després, expliquem la diferència de pronunciació entre els uns i els altres i es classificaran en els tres diferents grups. Finalment, farem cinc preguntes de comprensió del text senzilles.

Accions i situacions habituals del passat. Patrons sonors. Passat dels verbs regulars i la seua pronunciació.
